#FarFromBA: Belize
English version at end of post Belize es un pequeño paraíso en Centroamérica. Un país para enamorarse. Cuenta con la segunda #BarreraDelCoral más importante del mundo y del reconocido #BlueHole, Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
Este país no tendrá tanto marketing como otros lugares del caribe pero creo que eso es lo fascinante de este viaje. Es una opción diferente y sin dudas vale la pena visitarlo.
¿Cómo llegué acá?
Oficialmente fui invitada por el Ente de Turismo de Belize para poder difundirlo en mis plataformas y que la gente conozca más sobre este lugar y sus atracciones.
La forma más sencilla de llegar a Belize desde BA es en avión.
Copa Airlines tiene la ruta más corta. Son 11 hs de vuelo con una escala de 1 hs en Panamá.
Los precios aéreos van desde los 700 a 1000 USD. Todo va a depender de la aerolínea que elijan, si van en temporada alta/baja o si vuelan con más/menos escalas.
Belize y sus principales atracciones
INFO UTIL
👉 Los argentinos NO necesitamos visa NI vacunas preventivas. 👉 El vuelo llega al aeropuerto internacional de Belize (en ciudad de Belize) situado a 2 hs en auto de Belmopán (capital) y a 3 hs de Placencia (zona costera turística) 👉 La ciudad más poblada de este país es la ciudad de Belice, que de hecho era la antigua capital hasta 1970, cuando el huracán Hattie destruyó todo y obligó al gobierno a mudar la capital a Belmopan.
👉 Es una Monarquía parlamentaria cuya reina es Isabel II de Inglaterra (por eso su cara en los billetes).
👉El Idioma oficial es el inglés aunque predomina el español y criollo belizeño.
👉 Se usan 2 monedas. Dólar Americano y Dólar belizeño (1USD = 2BZ)
👉 La corriente eléctrica es de 110V, al igual que México y Guatemala (sus vecinos). 👉 Posee parte de la segunda barrera del coral más importante del mundo. 👉 El clima es caluroso y húmedo. Tropical. Con posibles chaparrones aislados. Min 20ºC Max 30ºC
👉 La mejor época para visitar Belize es de diciembre a mayo (con clima seco)

8) San Pedro (Isla más grande con calles asfaltadas. Hicimos un tour gastronómico)
BLUE HOLE
Después de tomar una avioneta en el aeropuerto de ciudad de Belize, se puede sobrevolar este espectáculo de la naturaleza.
El #BlueHole es una profunda cueva en el medio del óceano (de ahí su color azul oscuro) y es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Tiene 300 mts de largo y 125 mts de profundidad.
La vida marina que tiene para explotar este lugar es única y las vistas desde el aire son difíciles de olvidar (las fotos no tienen filtro). Hay aviones para 4 o 15 personas. Cuanto más completo va el vuelo, más económico es el ticket, pero el promedio del pasaje por persona es de USD 200. Nosotros volamos con Maya Island Air. Ellos ofrecen un ticket de USD 6 para los lugares libres disponibles en un vuelo ya reservado, pero quedas sujeto a que te avisen esa disponibilidad. La duración total del vuelo es de 1:45 hs.
XUNANTUNICH
Xunantunich significa "Stone Lady" (Mujer de piedra). Su nombre refiere a que en este mismo lugar aseguran haber visto a una mujer que al querer buscarla, se desvaneció en las rocas.
Está situado a 130 Km de Ciudad de Belize, en el borde fronterizo con Guatemala, a orillas del río Mopán.
Acá se encuentra la segunda #PiramideMaya más grande del país y las vistas son espectaculares.
El acceso es simple. En bus público o por transfer privado y luego hay que caminar 1,5 km cuesta arriba hasta llegar a la pirámide mayor.
La entrada general está USD 5 y menores de 4 años acceden gratis. No se permiten drones.
MOUNTAIN PINE RIDGE
El #MountainPineRidge es una reserva natural en el Distrito de Cayo, en el centro de Belize, que se encarga de proteger los pinos autóctonos del país. La entrada es gratuita y es una excursión de medio día. Visitar este lugar implica hacer un poco de trekking y chapoteo en sus piletas naturales y cascadas. Para trasladarse de un lugar a otro dentro de la reserva se necesita auto, por lo cual, es recomendable contratar la excursión con almuerzo incluido. Hago esta referencia porque el camino es rocoso y hay que manejar con cuidado. Los belizeños lo conocen bien. El valor de esta excursión va de los 75 a los 100 USD según la empresa que elijan. Nuestros 3 Stops en la reserva fueron: 👉 Big Rock Fall 👉 Rio Frio Cave 👉 Rio on Pools
Es un programa ideal para los que les gusta el senderismo y algo diferente al clásico buceo que todos vienen a buscar en Belize.
HOPKINS
Después de recorrer el interior de Belize, toca conocer las paradisíacas #playas de este país. Lo más común es ir a #Placencia para hacer base y desde ahí pueden visitar, por el día, diferentes cayos. Pero nosotros hicimos base en #Hopkins que es más tranquilo.
Nos hospedamos en el hotel boutique Villa Verano. No es económico para ser honesta. Una habitación ronda los 600 USD. Pero si el hotel se alquila completo (para una familia o un grupo de amigos) cada habitación pasa a costar 300 USD con desayuno incluído. (son 10 habitaciones). El lugar es único, con habitaciones con vista al mar y playa privada.
A solo 5 minutos de este hotel se encuentra el puerto desde donde salen las lanchas a los diferentes cayos. Nosotros nos manejamos con la empresa Splash Dive Center . Cada excursión con snorkel y almuerzo incluido cuesta USD 100 aproximadamente. 👉 Silk Caye (1:15 hs de lancha) 👉 South Water Caye (30 min de lancha). Estos lugares son como un pedacito de paraíso que uno puede disfrutar al menos por unas horas.
¿Puede haber una sensación más relajante que flotar?
Silk Caye es una pequeña porción de arena en el medio del océano. Cuenta con 3 mesas para poder comer y dejar las pertenencias mientras se bucea.
Creo que deben caber 30 personas como mucho, por lo cual, entre las diferentes empresas de turismo, se turnan para no colapsar el pequeño y hermoso cayo.
El buceo en este lugar es increíble
Sin dudas, este fue MI MOMENTO de todo el viaje
South Water Caye es un un poco más grande que Silk Caye. Tiene muelle, baños, mesas y hasta algunos boungalows donde poder pasar la noche si se lo desea.
CAYE CAULKER
Cayo Caulker es una isla más grande que las anteriores mencionadas.
Desde ciudad de Belize se puede tomar una lancha-taxi de 1 hs (USD 9) o tomar una avioneta de 20 minutos desde el aeropuerto internacional (USD 80). Una vez en Caulker pueden tomar un taxi (carrito de golf) o pedir el servicio de traslado del hotel que hayan elegido para que los busquen.
Caulker tiene restaurantes y locales comerciales con un estilo rústico y pintoresco. Hay varios hoteles donde alojarse, nosotros pasamos 3 noches en Jans Hotel Belize.
Para desayunos, almuerzos y cenas visitamos: "Fantasy Dinning", "Amor y Cafe" y "Koko-King". Además, una noche conocimos "Sports Bar and Grill" donde brindamos y bailamos un buen rato.
A nivel precios gastronómicos Belize en general no es económico. Un desayuno liviano rondaba los USD 10 y uno abundante podía escalar los 20 USD. Respecto de las cenas/almuerzos, solíamos gastar unos USD 30 por persona (con bebida y postre).
En el supermercado (en su mayoría chinos) los precios se vuelven más razonables.
Una botella de agua chica USD 0,50 un porrón de cerveza USD 2,50 y unas Papas Fritas USD 2,50.
(Pongo estos valores porque son cosas que suelo llevarme a la habitación del hotel).
El mejor plan es alquilar una bici (en los hoteles) por USD2,50 y recorrer el pequeño cayo.
Es indescifrable el encanto de Belice. Este país es un punto de encuentro de culturas y costumbres. En ella están las huellas de todas las regiones que lo han habitado: mayas, mestizos, criollos, menonitas, árabes, chinos, españoles, ingleses y europeos, convirtiendo en uno de los lugares más pacíficos y felices de la región.
Además pueden practicar deportes extremos como andar en moto de agua o hacer Fly Boarding.
SAN PEDRO "La Isla Bonita"
San Pedro es un municipio ubicado en la zona sur del cayo Ambergris, en el norte de Belize y muchos eligen hospedarse directamente acá. Sus calles son asfaltadas y está llena de carritos de golf que van y vienen.
Sin dudas es uno de los puntos más turísticos que tiene el país. Además dicen que Maddonna se inspiró en ella para escribir su famosa canción "La Isla Bonita".
Nosotros vinimos a pasar el día e hicimos un tour gastronómico para conocer la comida típica de Belize. Nuestro guía de Belize Food Tours nos llevó por 8 stops donde degustamos opciones saladas y dulces, mientras conocíamos un poquito de historia de cada lugar.
De izquierda a derecha:
1) Fry Jacks, clásico desayuno Belizeño (tortas fritas, huecas, para rellenar con puré de garbanzos)
2) Ceviche con nachos + cerveza Blikin, clásico snack
3) Arroz con frijoles y pollo, almuerzo/cena de cabecera en este país.
Con esta foto me despido de Belize, de su gente, de su cultura, de su amabilidad, de sus hermosas playas y su rica historia. Fue un placer haber tenido la oportunidad de pisar estas tierras y nadar en sus aguas turquesas con tortugas, delfines, peces, tiburones y rayas.
Por último pero no menos importante, un enorme gracias al equipo que me acompañó. Comunicadores de distintas partes del mundo disfrutando de lo que más nos gusta hacer: viajar-explorar-comer. Me encantó compartir este viaje con ellos.

Far From BA Belize:
A small Central American paradise, possessor of the second most important #CoralBarrier and the #BlueHole, World Heritage.
Belize will not have as much marketing as other places in the Caribbean but I think that is what is fascinating about this trip. It is a different option and without a doubt it is worth visiting.
How did I get here?
Officially I was invited by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) to tell about this destination and its main attractions on my networks.
The easiest way to get to Belize from BA is by plane.
Copa Airlines has the shortest route. It is an 11 hours flight with a 1 hour scale in Panama.
Prices go from 200 to 400 USD. Everything will depend on the airline you choose, if you go in high/low season or if you fly with more/less stop overs.

👉 It is a parliamentary monarchy whose Queen is Elizabeth II of England (that's why its her face on the bills).
👉The official language is English, although Spanish and Belizean Creole predominate.
👉 2 coins are used. US Dollar and Belize Dollar (1USD = 2BZ)
👉 The electric current is 110V, like Mexico and Guatemala (its neighbors).
👉 It has part of the second most important coral barrier in the world.

BLUE HOLE
After taking a plane at the airport in Belize City, you can fly over this nature spectacle.
The #BlueHole is a deep cave in the middle of the ocean (hence its dark blue color) and is a World Heritage Site. It is 300 meters long and 125 meters deep.
The marine life that has to exploit this place is unique and the views from the air are hard to forget (the photos have no filter).
There are planes for 4 or 15 people. The more complete the flight, the cheaper the ticket, but the average ticket per person is USD 200. We fly with Maya Island Air. They offer a USD 6 ticket for the free places available on a booked flight, but you are subject to being notified of that availability. The total duration of the flight is 1:45 hs.
MOUNTAIN PINE RIDGE
The #MountainPineRidge is a nature reserve in Cayo District, in central Belize, which is responsible for protecting the native pines of the country. Admission is free and is a half-day excursion.
Visiting this place involves doing some trekking and splashing in its natural pools and waterfalls.
To move from one place to another within the reserve you need a car, so it is advisable to hire a tour with lunch included. I make this reference because the road is rocky and you have to drive with care. The Belizeans know him well. The value of this tour ranges from USD 75 to 100 depending on the company they choose.

It is an ideal program for those who like hiking and something different from the classic diving that everyone comes to look for in Belize.
HOPKINS
After touring the interior of Belize, it's time to get to know the paradisiac beaches of this country.
The most common thing to do is to go to #Placencia and from there you can visit, for the day, different keys. But we made stayed in #Hopkins that is not so hetic.
We stayed at the boutique hotel Villa Verano. It's not cheep to be honest. One room costs around USD 600. But if the hotel is fully rented (for a family or a group of friends) each room costs USD 300. with breakfast included. (there are 10 rooms). The place is unique, with rooms overlooking the sea and a private beach.
Only 5 minutes away from this hotel is the port from where the boats go to the different keys.
We manage our tours with Splash Dive Center. Each tour with snorkel and lunch included costs approximately USD 100.
👉 Silk Caye (1:15 hs boat) 👉 South Water Caye (30 min boat).
These places are like a piece of paradise that one can enjoy at least for a few hours.
CAYE CAULKER
Is a larger island than the above mentioned.
From Belize City you can take a 1-hour taxi boat (USD 9) or take a 20 minute plane from the international airport (USD 80). Once in Caulker you can take a taxi (golf cart) or ask for the transfer service of the hotel that you have chosen to be searched.
Caulker has restaurants and shops with a rustic and picturesque style. There are several hotels to stay at, we spent 3 nights at Jans Hotel Belize.
For breakfast, lunch and dinner we visit: "Fantasy Dinning", "Love and Coffee" and "Koko-King". In addition, one night we met "Sports Bar and Grill" where we toasted and danced for a while.
At a gastronomic price level, Belize is not economical in general. A light breakfast was around USD 10 and an afull breakfast could climb USD 20. Regarding the dinners/lunches, we used to spend about USD 30 per person (with drink and dessert).
In the supermarket (mostly Chinese) the prices become more reasonable. A bottle of water girl USD 0.50 a jug of beer USD 2.50 and a fries USD 2.50. (I put these prices because they are things that I usually take to the hotel room).
The best plan is to rent a bike (at the hotels) for USD2.50 and tour the small key.
You can also practice extreme sports such as riding a jet ski or fly boarding.
SAN PEDRO "La Isla Bonita"
San Pedro is a municipality located in the south area of Ambergris Caye, in the north of Belize and many choose to stay directly here. Its streets are paved and full of golf carts that come and go.
Undoubtedly, it is one of the most touristic points that the country has. In Fact, rumor has it that Maddona owes her famous song "La Isla Bonita" to this beautiful island.
We came to spend the day and did a gastronomic tour to get to know the typical food of Belize. Our guide of Belize Food Tours took us through 8 stops where we tasted salty and sweet options, while we knew a little history of each place.
The charm of Belize is indecipherable. This country is a meeting point of cultures and customs. In it are the traces of all the regions that have inhabited it: Mayans, Mestizos, Creoles, Mennonites, Arabs, Chinese, Spaniards, English and Europeans, making it one of the most peaceful and happy places in the region.
