Aprender a jugar al polo es posible gracias a Polo Tour, un grupo de polistas que quieren compartir su pasión y acercar este deporte tanto a extranjeros como a locales.

Días atrás visité la Estancia Villa María (en Cañuelas) para disfrutar de un día al aire libre, rodeada de naturaleza, practicando un deporte que muchos consideran inaccesible y bastante snob: El Polo.

No puedo culparlos por pensar eso, yo también lo hacía, pero conversando con Ezequiel y Juan José, entendí porqué pasa esto y aquí está la cuestión:

Mates y facturas de por medio (desayuno con el que nos recibieron), me explicaron que el deporte nació originalmente en Asia. Luego fue importado a Inglaterra y "pulido" con las reglas del juego que actualmente conocemos. Cuando los inmigrantes del Reino Unido llegaron a estas tierras, lo importaron también acá. El resultado final fue que el deporte tuvo más éxito en Argentina que en Inglaterra porque las condiciones climáticas de nuestro país son más favorecedoras para la crianza y entrenamiento de los caballos.

Por esta razón, Argentina tiene a los mejores jugadores de polo del mundo y el torneo anual más importante se juega acá en primavera: " El Abierto de Polo".

De más está decir que toda la realeza british se traslada hacia estos pagos en dicha fecha y cuando los torneos se juegan allá, sucede a la inversa.

Por otro lado, Para los que no se sientan con la confianza de practicar el deporte, pero les entusiasme andar a caballo, Polo Tour ofrece cabalgatas al atardecer por los bosques de la estancia que terminan en un cálido fogón.

La actividad se cierra, a gusto de cliente, con almuerzo/cena (o no) en el restaurante del hotel.

Disfruté mucho de una actividad que conocía poco y nada. Seguramente repetiré algún día. Lamento no haberme podido quedar a pasar la noche para que la experiencia sea bien completa. El lugar es soñado. Queda pendiente.

Learning how to play polo is possible thanks to Polo Tour agency, a group of ex-polo players who want to share their passion and bring this sport to foreigners and locals alike.

Days ago I visited Estancia Villa María (in Cañuelas) to enjoy a day outdoors, surrounded by nature, practicing a sport that many consider inaccessible and quite snobbish: The Pole.

I can not blame them for thinking that, I did too, but chatting with Ezequiel and Juan José I understood why this happens and here is the thing:

They explained to me that the sport was originally born in Asia. Then it was imported to England and "polished" with the rules of the game we currently know. When British immigrants from the arrived in these lands, they imported it here as well. The final result was that the sport was more successful in Argentina than in England because of the better climatic conditions and not as extreme as there, in addition the gauchos mounted the horses to the perfection.

For this reason, Argentina has the best polo players in the world and the most important annual tournament is played here in the spring: "The Polo Open".

All British royalty moves to these fields on that date and when the tournaments are played in England it happens the other way around.

On the other hand, For those who do not feel confident of practicing this type of sport, but are enthusiastic about riding a horse, Polo Tour agency offers horseback riding at sunset through the forests of the ranch which end in a warm fire.

The activity is closed, at the client's pleasure, with lunch/dinner (or not) at the hotel restaurant.

I really enjoyed the experience and I regret no staying overnight to make it complete. The place is outstanding. Maybe next time.
