Lo primero que tienen que saber si están de visita un 25 de mayo, es que es feriado nacional. No importa que día caiga, para nuestro país es un día de celebración (no laboral) inamovible.
¿Qué se celebra?
Celebramos el Día de la Patria, que es cuando se formó el Primer Gobierno Criollo frente al Cabildo, en 1810. Para algún despistado o algún turista que no sepa, no tiene nada que ver con nuestra independencia. Nuestra declaración de Independencia del Reino Español se produjo varios años después (el 9 de Julio de 1816). Igualmente ambos hechos están relacionados, ya que con la Revolución de Mayo se empezó a gestar la Independencia Argentina.
¿Cómo lo celebramos?
Las familias suelen juntarse para almorzar o a tomar el té. Si se almuerza, el menú por excelencia es un buen "Locro" (guiso a base de zapallo, porotos, maíz o papas) y si la juntada es para la hora del té, nada mejor que una buena taza de chocolate caliente acompañada de pastelitos fritos de dulce de batata/membrillo o churros rellenos con dulce de leche.
La época otoñal va acorde a los platos calientes. Por lo cual, quienes estén visitando nuestro país, están ante una excelente oportunidad para disfrutar de unas de las fechas más importantes a nivel gastronomía autóctona.
La mayoría de los restaurantes y hoteles ofrecen el típico "Menú Patrio". Van a ver carteles en las entradas de los locales con el típica leyenda: "Hay Locro". Ante la duda entren y pregunten.
También van a poder sumarse a los festejos que todos los años se hacen en Plaza de Mayo (donde comenzó la Revolución frente al Cabildo). Suele haber shows y desfiles para toda la familia.
¿Qué otras tradiciones practicamos?
Usar escarapela durante toda la semana es de las más lindas costumbres que todavía conservamos. Si sos extranjero y ves a alguien con una "mini bandera argentina" a modo de broche sobre la ropa, automáticamente sabes que te encontrás en una "semana patria".
Además del Locro y los pastelitos fritos, otras opciones gastronómicas típicas de la época eran la torta frita (la cual iba acompañada de mate o vino), la Humita, el Pan con Chicharron, o nuestras ya célebres "Empanadas Criollas" rellenas de carne cortada a cuchillo.
"La mazamorra caliente para las viejas sin dientes" eran una de las tantas frases que exclamaban las mulatas (vendedoras afroargentinas) al recorrer las calles coloniales, mientras se producía la Revolución en 1810. La Mazamorra es un postre latinoamericano elaborado con vainilla, maíz blanco, agua y azúcar. En la versión argentina se le incorpora leche y a veces canela. Un clásico.

Libertador, saliendo desde la esquina Salguero a las 11:00 am, en dirección a Av. Dorrego, para terminar festejando en la cancha de Polo.

How do we celebrate such an important moment of our history? Which are our most beloved traditions? Welcome to our post!
The first thing you have to know if you are visiting the country on May 25 th is that it is a national holiday.
What do we celebrate?
Basically we are celebrating a very important day for our country. It was established the first local government “Primera Junta” [“First Junta”] in front of the Cabildo in 1810. If you do not know about it, let me point out it has nothing to do with our independence. During July, 9th of 1816 our Independence declaration from the Spanish Kingdom took place. Anyway both facts are related since with the May´s Revolution, the Argentine Independence initiated
How do we celebrate it?
Families often come together for lunch or tea. If you have lunch, the menu is all about "Locro" (stew made from pumpkin, beans, corn or potatoes) and if the gathering is for tea time, nothing better than a good cup of hot chocolate, accompanied by “pastelitos” (fried sweet quince cakes) or “Churros” (fried-dough pastry) stuffed generally with dulce de leche.
The autumnal season comes along with hot dishes. Therefore, those who are visiting our country, are facing an excellent opportunity to enjoy some of the most important dates for the native gastronomy and learn about our rich history visiting our attractions.
Most restaurants and hotels offer the typical "Menu Patrio" [homeland menu]. You will see charts in the entrances with the typical legend: "Hay Locro" [we have Locro]. When in doubt, come in and ask.
You will also be able to join the festivities that are held every year in Plaza de Mayo (where the Revolution began in front of the Cabildo). There are usually shows and parades for the whole family.
What other traditions do we practice?
Wearing cockade throughout the week is one of the most beautiful customs we still have. If you see someone with a light blue and white cockade on clothes, you automatically know that you find yourself in a "homeland week".
In addition to locro and fried pastries, other typical gastronomic options of that time were the “torta frita” [“fried cake”] (which was accompanied by mate or wine), the Humita, Bread with Chicharron, or our already famous "Empanadas Criolla”.
"The hot mazamorra for the old women without teeth" was one of the many phrases exclaimed by the mulatas (Afro-Argentine saleswomen) as they crossed the colonial streets in 1810. The Mazamorra is a Latin American dessert made with vanilla, white corn, Water and sugar. In our version milk and sometimes cinnamon are incorporated. Classic.

Libertador, starting at Salguero corner at 11:00 am, towards to Av. Dorrego, and eventually finishing the celebration in Campo de Polo de Palermo
