Es el barrio más elegante y "chic" de la ciudad. No por nada se la conoce como la "París porteña". Toda su arquitectura desborda aires franceses y junto a Puerto Madero, son de los barrios más exclusivos.
Recomiendo a los turistas que vienen a conocer Buenos Aires por unos días, alojarse en esta zona, dado que queda a pocos minutos del Casco Histórico, a otros pocos minutos de Palermo y, en sí mismo, es un barrio con opciones comerciales, gastronómicas, culturales y también de ocio con sus múltiples parques.
Te propongo un recorrido de 15 paradas para tocar sus puntos más emblemáticos.
1-Biblioteca Nacional (Agüero 2502)
Si bien es un ícono cultural porteño, genera opiniones adversas entre los arquitectos más especializados. Están quienes lo consideran uno de los edificios mas bellos de la ciudad y los que opinan todo lo contrario. Su diseño (brutalista) se caracteriza por privilegiar las estructuras de hormigón armado, dejandolas a simple vista y tratadas de manera escultórica.
2- Floralis Genérica (Av Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 2263)
Escultura metálica ubicada en Plaza de las Naciones Unidas (de las más lindas), realizada por el arquitecto argentino Eduardo Catalano para representar a todas las flores del mundo (de ahí su nombre). A partir de su sistema eléctrico, la flor se abre por el día y cierra sus petalos por la noche.
3- Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales (Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 2263)
De estilo Monumentalista, este edificio es sede de la carrera que alberga a la mayor cantidad de estudiantes en la ciudad. Además, su extensa escalinata fue protagonista de los más prestigiosos desfiles de alta moda en los años 90.
4- Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Av. del Libertador 1473)
Tiene el mayor patrimonio artístico del país y es uno de los principales de América Latina. Abre de Martes a Viernes de 12:30 a 20:30 y Sáb-Dom-Feriados de 9:30 a 20:30. Entrada libre y gratuita.
5- Buenos Aires Design (Av. Pueyrredón 2501)
Centro comercial que al estar rodeado de varios atractivos túristicos (parques, locales gastronómicos, tiendas de ropa y museos) se transforma en una visita obligada.
6- Iglesia de Nuestra señora del Pilar (Junín 1892)
Es el segundo templo más antiguo de la ciudad. Una verdadera joya de la arquitectura colonial española. Vale la pena ingresar algunos minutos y contemplarla en silencio. Cuando me toca visitar una ciudad, siempre me gusta entrar en alguna Iglesia para agradecer la oportunidad de estar conociendo nuevos lugares y pedir por las personas que mas lo necesitan.
7- Ferias de Plaza Francia
El verdadero nombre de la plaza es Presidente Alvear. Los fines de semana y feriados, esta barranca se llena de artesanos que exponen sus creaciones. Es un programa atractivo tanto para turistas como porteños, dado que combina música, diseño, gastronomía y compras, todo al aire libre.
8- Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junín 1930)
Edificio con diferentes espacios para la presentación de libros, la realización de obras de teatro y danza, conciertos, conferencias, muestras de artes plásticas y exposiciones. Abre de martes a viernes 13:30 a 20:30. Sábados, domingos y feriados de 11:30 a 20:30. Lunes cerrado.
9- Cementerio de la Recoleta (Junín 1760)
Es uno de los más importantes del mundo por las personalidades que en él descansan, por su variada arquitectura, la calidad de las esculturas y la mayor colección de vitrales que embellecen sus bóvedas. Hay visitas guiadas para recorrerlo y abre de lunes a domingo de 7:00 a 17:45 hs.
10- Café La Biela (Av. Pres. Manuel Quintana 59)
Fue punto de reunión para los aficionados del automovilismo y su éxito impulsó la instalación de negocios gastronómicos frente al Cementerio. Declarado de interés cultural por la Legislatura de la ciudad, es una parada obligatoria, aunque sea para hacer un breve "stop" y tomar un rico café.
11- Recoleta Mall (Vicente López 2050)
Ubicado en un lugar estratégico por su cercanía a otros puntos de interés, este centro comercial fue creado a partir de la remodelación de los históricos "Village Recoleta" (Cines). Abre de lunes a domingo de 10 a 22 hs. Lo bueno de este complejo es que no es muy grande de recorrer si se quiere hacer un shopping puntual. Además cuenta con locales gastronómicos, lo cual es una buena opción para frenar a comer o tomar un café y recuperar fuerzas para seguir. No está demás decir que alrededor del mall existen otras opciones muy interesantes para almorzar o cenar.
12- Facultad de ingenieria (Av. Gral. las Heras 2214)
A pocas cuadras nos topamos con este edificio de estilo neogótico de carácter no religioso. Al ser una sede de estudio público, puede visitarse sin problemas y admirar su arquitectura interna, además de ver como estudian los alumnos de exactas.
13- Av. Santa Fe (del 2500 al 1700)
Conocida también como Avenida de la Moda. Al ser sumamente extensa, les recomiendo recorrer desde esquina Pueyrredón hasta esquina Callao, para poder darse una idea de su arquitectura europea mientras visitan sus locales comerciales.
14- Ateneo Grand Splendid (Av. Sta Fe 1860)
Y llegamos a uno de mis lugares preferidos en toda la ciudad. Librería construída en lo que alguna vez fue el Teatro Grand Splendid. Según el periódico británico The Guardian es la segunda librería más hermosa del mundo. Además cuenta con café donde se puede frenar a leer unas páginas del libro que más te haya cautivado y tentado a comprar.
15- Patio Bullrich (Posadas 1245 o por Av. del Libertador 750)
Después de bajar por Av. Callao (una de más lindas) y girar en Av. Alvear (una de las más elegantes), nos dirigimos al centro comercial más sofisticado de la ciudad. Patio Bullrich se caracteriza por alojar a las marcas de mayor prestigio a nivel mundial (Tiffany & Co, Swarovski, Christian Lacroix, Zara, Cacharel, Hugo Boss, etc.) y cuenta con joyerías que venden Cartier, Bvlgari o Tag Heuer.
Dejé el shopping para el final del recorrido porque en mi opinión, no hay nada más molesto que caminar con bolsas a cuestas. De esta forma le damos un cierre a tono, a uno de los barrios más "pitucones" (como diríamos los porteños) de Buenos Aires.

Recoleta
Most elegant and chic neighbourhood in city. For many people it resembles Paris. All of its architecture has french style and ,along with Puerto Madero, is one of the exclusive sites for living.
I recommend you, should you come for a few days, accommodating in this zone as it is not only near the historic centre, but also of Palermo. It is an all-round site with cultural, gastronomic and lesirure options with a lot of green space.
These are the 15 most important attractions in Recoleta:
1- Biblioteca Nacional (Agüero 2502) Despite being a cultural icon of Buenos Aires, there is a controversy between architects: some consider it one of the most beautiful in town, while others think the other way round. Its design, brutalist, prioritise reinforced concrete structures visible to the naked eye and treated in a sculptural way.
2- Floralis Genérica (Figueroa Alcorta 2263) Metal sculpture placed in one of the loveliest parks - Plaza de Las Naciones Unidas [United Nations Park], designed by Eduardo Catalano, an Argentine architect, to represent every flower around the wire. Due to its electrical system, the flower opens during the day and closes its petals in the evening.
3- Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales (Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 2263) With a monumentalist style, this law school hosts the greatest amount of students in the city. Moreover its large staircase was catwalk of top haute couture fashion shows during the 90’s.
4- Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Del Libertador Avenue, 1473) Largest artistic heritage in the country and one of the most relevant in Latin America. Opens Tuesday through Friday, 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Weekends and holidays from 9:30AM to 8:30 PM. Entrance free of charge.
5- Buenos Aires Design (Pueyrredon Avenue, 2501) A must-see shopping mall surrounded by parks, pubs and restaurants as well as museums and clothing stores.
6- Basilica Nuestra Señora del Pilar (Junin 1892) Second oldest temple in BA. A real jewel from the Spanish colonial architecture. It is worth entering a few minutes and enjoy the silence. Every time I am in a new city, I always pray for the chance of keep visiting new places and those in need.
7- Fairs at Plaza Francia
The actual name of the park is ‘Presidente Alvear’ [Alvear President]. On weekends and holidays, it gets packed with artisans exposing their creations. It is an attractive program both for tourists and BA citizens as it mixes music, design and gastronomy in the open.
8- Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junin 1930) Building with different spaces for book launching, concerts or conferences. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 1:30 PM to 8:30 PM. As regards weekends and holiday from 11:30AM to 8:30PM and closed on Monday.
9- Recoleta Cemetery (Junin 1760) Top cemetery in the world for many reasons: firstly due to the personalitites buried here; secondly for its varied architecture, the quality of sculptures and the greatest colections of vitrals that embellish their vaults. There are guided visits for touring it. The doors are open from Monday through Sunday (7Am to 6PM).
10- Café La Biela (Avenida Manuel Quintana 59) It was a meeting point for those racing fans. Its success spurred the inauguration of restaurants and pubs in front of the cemetery. There are plenty of sepia photos of former F1 champions as well as a sculpture of Bioy Casares and Borges having a coffee. It was declared as ‘Café Notable’ [Historic Cafe]
11- Recoleta Mall (Vicente Lopez 2050) Placed in an strategic location for being near sites of interest, this mall replaced the former “Village Recoleta”. It is open Monday through Sunday from 10Am to 11PM. It is not one of my favourites malls, I daresay. It not really big and It has not many stores. You may have dinner or lunch on its tiny Food court but I think that there better places around.
12- Facultad de Ingeniería (Avenida Las Heras 2214) A few blocks away from Recoleta Mall we come across this neo-gothic, non-religious building. You can visit it carelessly as it is a public building and admire its internal architecture with engineering students on the inside.
13- Avenida Santa Fe (1700-2500) It is regarded as the ‘Fashion Avenue’. I strongly suggest to stroll from the corner of Pueyrredon Avenue to Callao so that you get a glimpse of its architecture while visiting the different stores.
14- Ateneo Grand Splendid (Avenida Santa Fe 1860) We’ve just arrived to one of my favourite places in BA. It is a bookshop built in the former Grand Splendid Theatre. According to the Brittish newspaper ‘The Guardian’ it is the second most beautiful bookstore in the world. Moreover there is a coffee shop to stop for a while, read some pages of a book and maybe buy it. In the end, daily we write the pages of an exciting book called life…
15- Patio Bullrich (Posadas 1245) After walking down Avenida Callao [Callao Avenue] and turning into Alvear, we head to the most sophisticated mall in town. Patio Bullrich gathers not only clothing top brands around the world such as Hugo Boss, Christian Lacroix or Cacharel) ,but also jewellery stores that sell Cartier, Bvlgari or Tag Heuer.
